What to pack for camp
At Camp Lakota, we want your child to be comfortable. There is no need to go out and re-wardrobe your children in the latest and greatest in fashion. Please adhere as closely as possible to the suggested types and quantities of clothing indicated on our Camp Lakota Packing List, which you can download from our website. Our Packing List outlines clothing, bedding, toiletries, footwear and other camp gear that will be useful at camp.
Clothes that wash easily and wear well are recommended. Laundry service is provided once a week, on premises, for all of our campers. Therefore, there is no reason to exceed the suggested quantities of clothing.
We recommend comfortable clothing and items that can withstand the rigors of everyday active camp life. It is quite possible that items throughout the summer might get torn or stained. It is our recommendation that expensive outfits and fragile clothing are not sent to camp.
Throughout the summer we do have dances, socials and an end of summer banquet – so campers might want to have a nicer outfit or two for those special occasions.
With respect to equipment, Camp Lakota has everything. Many campers bring their favorite baseball glove, tennis racket, or lacrosse stick, but if you don’t have these items or you prefer not to bring them to camp, we have all sports equipment and helmets in our “Station.” Campers may bring items such as hockey sticks, baseball gloves, personal helmets, etc. Campers should also bring an extra pair of eyeglasses or contacts.
We also recommend that every camper have an inexpensive pair of boots with a heel. These boots with a heel will be good for horseback riding, nature hikes, and for use on a rainy day. Also, please note that, in keeping with NYS Board of Health regulations, campers MUST have a shoe with a minimum heel height of 1” for horseback riding.
IMPORTANT: All clothing and gear MUST be labeled with your camper’s full name. This may be accomplished by either affixing a nametape to each article or by stamping or writing the camper’s name in permanent ink.
While we have protective equipment, we recommend that campers wishing to rollerblade and skateboard bring their rollerblades/board, an approved helmet and appropriate padding for proper sizing and optimal safety. Rollerblading and skateboarding is allowed at Lakota in our approved and supervised areas. Campers who would like to play Roller Hockey and Skateboard are required to wear a helmet, elbow and knee pads.
