The Blue and Gray are also GREEN
Camp Lakota is happy to announce, in its continuing efforts to be environmentally conscious, we have contracted the services of Orange and Rockland Electric to perform a complete campus energy evaluation and new lighting installation. With the forward thinking help of Orange and Rockland we are not only going to "see the light" (everything will be brighter and more brilliant) but we will be able to help conserve our natural resources.
Construction is already complete in many areas. We have installed a new high luminance lighting system in the Social Hall, and have also installed new environmentally friendly lighting in the Dining Hall and Canteen. Many of the bunks are currently in the process of getting retrofitted as well. When the job is complete, outside lights, every bunk and most every building on campus will have new, brilliant lighting that saves energy.
We are also installing lights with motion sensitive, automatic smart switches in all of our public bathrooms, public areas and many buildings around campus. So now, when you enter a building, the lights will automatically turn on and when you leave, they will
automatically turn off.
This GREEN initiative is part of our on going plan at Lakota to consider the environment which we all share. Along with these new programs we continue our GREEN efforts in a variety of other ways.
As you probably know, we already have a comprehensive recycling program, and your children, our campers are a huge part of that success. All of our cans, bottles and cardboard, with the help of our conscientious campers and staff are collected and brought for recycling. All of our Lakota campers help in making sure their water bottles and other items available for recycling are put in our special recycling bins which are labeled all throughout our campus.
Additionally, we are also currently exploring new ways to bring energy to Lakota. For example, this off season we will be meeting with Environmental Energy Consultants on a variety of options, including the use of solar energy panels.
We will continue to inspire environmental consciousness in all of our campers and staff. It is the Camp Lakota promise to continue to look for new ways for the Blue and Gray to stay GREEN.
