Dear Lakota Families,
Our hearts are breaking as we write this message. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our promise to you was that we would only open camp if we could provide a safe and happy summer for our campers. It is with deep sadness that we share with you that Camp Lakota will close for summer 2020. Our mantra is Every Camper, Every Day, and we made this decision with every camper in mind.
We left no stone unturned in Wurtsboro. For months, we’ve spoken with health officials, we evaluated all testing possibilities, analyzed trends and the latest data, reimagined our standard operating procedures, consulted with trusted medical professionals and camp professionals. After methodically reviewing all of the guidelines and regulations, we would not be able to deliver a true Lakota experience at this time.
We treat our campers as if they are our own children; health and safety surpass all other factors. As a camp with an incredible healthcare team, we regularly manage contagious viruses and infections that arise – strep, pink eye, impetigo and more. These are highly recognizable, and we always are prepared with immediate treatment and containment protocols. When we think about adding the potential for an invisible virus with uncertain symptoms that present differently and spread rampantly, the risk becomes too great. There is so much yet unknown about COVID-19.
We can only look forward to better days ahead. Please stay safe and connected with us. Give our campers a big Lakota hug and know that we are in it with you.
In the coming week, we will follow up with an email addressing financial options for rollover credits to the 2021 summer and refunds. We will also share details for next summer. Please do not hesitate to be in touch in the meantime.
